Snow shoveling tips for a healthy back.
Video Transcript
Hey everyone, Dr. Alibhai here from Stuart Chiropractic. Today, I’m going to teach you some snow shoveling techniques to prevent back injuries and reduce aches, so you can enjoy your time outdoors. First, find your shovel and adopt an aggressive stance. It’s crucial to hinge through your hips and bend your knees to lower your body as you push the snow.
Avoid bending and arching your back—this is what not to do. Keep one leg forward, hinge at your hips, and ensure your lower back stays straight. Root your foot into the ground as if you are trying to break it. This activates your glute, aiding in pushing and lifting the snow effectively. Turn your whole body when moving the snow.
Do not twist your back or make sharp, jerking movements as these can lead to injury. Always use both hands and firmly plant your feet into the ground. Before heading out, make sure you are warmed up and wearing appropriate gloves—unlike me right now. Have a wonderful day and enjoy the weather.
Bye now.
