Low back sparing technique
Video Transcript
Hey everyone, Dr. Alibhai here from Stuart Chiropractic. Today, I’m going to teach you how to save your back from strain. Often, we harm our backs by stooping when reaching for something below or in front of us. Instead of bending from your back, you can hinge from your hips. In this position, my back stays completely straight, allowing me to lift an object or even pick up a child safely.
You might also try the athletic stance, with one leg in front of the other, known as a split stance. This way, I’m lowering myself closer to the ground but keeping my back straight. Another useful position is the half-kneeling stance, which also allows me to get closer to the ground while keeping my back straight.
Use your hips to your advantage. If you feel tightness in the front, alleviate it by doing some hip flexor stretches. This will help protect your lower back. Let me know how it goes. Bye now.
