Improve your Balance

Video Transcript

Hey everyone, Dr. Alibhai here from Stuart Chiropractic. Do you ever find yourself tripping over your feet, feeling off-balance, or just not walking as smoothly as you’d like, possibly due to pain? I’ve noticed my balance isn’t what it should be when I try to stand on one leg, so I want to share a simple exercise with you.

You don’t need any special equipment for this exercise—just your bare feet. You’re going to walk but pause for two seconds at each step. Here’s how it works: Take a step with your right foot and pause, holding that position for one, two seconds.

As I continue, I notice my leg is a bit shaky, and my hip tends to dump out. I correct this by pulling my hip back in and ensuring my entire foot is stable on the ground. I’m just walking back and forth here so you can see.

If this feels too easy, try taking bigger strides to challenge your balance further. One, two, bigger stride, noticing a bit of weakness there, one, two.

Practice this routine, even just ten times a day, and you’ll see your balance improve significantly—over two hundred percent in just two weeks.

This exercise activates the small muscles so the larger ones can engage more effectively. We aim to reduce falls, particularly in seniors or anyone with balance issues. However, it’s also beneficial for children to develop fine motor skills and prevent injuries.

Try making it a fun challenge at home to see who can walk the furthest without wobbling. Take care. Bye now.
